Other Services

Our other nursing services include:

  • Ear Cleaning. Gentle, deep cleaning of the ear canal can be performed in order to assist in removing mites, cerumen (wax), and to relieve symptoms of irritation. Certain dogs may be prone to ear problems due to the size and shape of their ears, and rescued pets quite often have parasitic ear infections. If the animal is in pain, or the problem seems to recur frequently, then veterinary treatment may be required.
  • Nail Trimming. Precision nail trimming can be a tricky task for owners; there are a few rules of thumb when clipping your dogs’ nails. Firstly, sharp clippers are important, an assistant to hold your dog is very helpful and a trained eye is crucial to avoid pinching toes, causing pain/ bleeding. Opaque nails are obviously more difficult to trim, but the dewclaws on the inside of the forelimbs should not be forgotten. Overgrown dew claws are terribly painful, since they do not contact the ground and wear naturally.
  • Anal Gland Expression. The anal or scent glands are small paired sacs located within the anus on either side. Occasionally these sacs become full or impacted and require emptying. Symptoms of impacted glands include bum scooting, tail biting and aggitation. Our nurse can attempt to relieve the discomfort for your dog. As with other procedures, if your pet is in pain, veterinary treatment may be required.
  • Microchipping. Microchipping involves placing a tiny chip under the skin by injection. The chip contains a number that will identify the details of the owner via database. In the event that your pet gets lost, all veterinary practices and major animal organisations will have a scanner which can read this chip. However it is vital that you register your details with the database; all information and contacts will be provided to you.
  • Flea and Worm Control. We can advise you on appropriate flea, tick, mite and worm control, and assist you in their administration. Our flea and worm products are proven effective and cannot be obtained in pet shops or supermarkets.
